My Poor Neglected Blog

It's been a long time since I put a post on my blog. I want to admit at this point that, like a lot of people trying to get their work noticed, I find social media somewhat intimidating. My wife tries to encourage me to write more posts, whether on the blog or Facebook. She tells me, "Readers want to know you before they read your book."
I argue back. I say that I like a book or I don't and it doesn't matter how many pictures someone's family I see or how many tidbits I read about them. It's a stupid argument for a couple of reasons. First, how exactly do I plan to get my book noticed by watching Netflix? Second, I'm essentially arguing that I would like to be a dinosaur Gen X and stay in 2005, and I'd everyone to do the same. I want recognition my way. It's somewhat childish really.
Trying to get to some kind of point here, I just ready Stephen King's introduction to Green Mile where he describes how he came to writing it as a serial series. It was an interesting read. I set it down and realized that Stephen King wrote that introduction to let his readers get to know him better. He just did it before social media.
I don't know what kind of content makes for a good blog post versus a Facebook post, and I haven't really made a serious effort to look into anything beyond those two Gen X mediums, but I was interested enough to read Stephen King's introduction, so it's not just the story. There's something more about readers and writers relating that it's time to explore.
